460 Published Expatriates for Q1 of 2012

2012-04-29

Yesterday the Treasury Department published the names of certain individuals who renounced their U.S. citizenship or terminated their long-term U.S. residency (“expatriated”) during the first quarter of 2012.

5/14/12 Update: Facebook co-founder, Eduardo Saverin, was on the first quarter 2012 list of published expatriates.  According to Saverin’s spokesperson, Saverin’s renunciation was prompted not by tax considerations but by U.S. rules that make it more difficult for U.S. citizens to live and invest overseas.  See WSJ Blog.

The number of Published Expatriates for the first quarter of 2012 was 460. The following graph shows the quarterly number of Published Expatriates since 2005.
